Show and Tell With Wedding Planner

Using Pinterest to share your ideas with your vendors, bridal posse and wedding planner in Boise is a great idea. According to BRIDES more than half of the brides they surveyed in 2014 created boards to communicate their wedding day wishes with those charged with making them come true. It really helps your wedding photographer, caterer, venue manager and others to see examples of what you have in mind. But before you start pinning everything from save-the-date cards to your honeymoon wardrobe, here are a few things to keep in mind:

6 Tips For Pinning Your Wedding Ideas

Allow advisors access

Create a secret board to keep your clever ideas under wraps as you build out your theme. You can invite those closest to you (who share your vision) to also pin photos to keep your creative engine humming without letting the cat out of the bag.

Bride bouquet, metal art, vintage jewlery

Make multiple boards

Your photographer may enjoy looking at shots of cakes and flowers, but it will save time when meeting with your vendors if you categorize your pins to their area of responsibility.

bridesmaids flowers, metal art, paper flowers

Customize captions

Change the captions in your pins describing what feature led you to add it to your board. With all the choices you have ahead, taking time to personalize your caption will save you from relying on your memory when you show your board to your wedding planner later.

Keep it real

Staged wedding concepts on Pinterest often feature one-of-a-kind or extravagant items you may not be able to find in Boise. What’s available within your budget may not look exactly like what you pinned, but it can still give your crew an idea of what you want to accomplish.

Let there be light

Especially when collecting photography examples, keep the time of your events and the setting in mind. Photos taken inside a huge venue or in evening light outside will look different than those shot at different times and places. Discuss with your photographer what light will be available for your occasion and how that will affect color and intensity in your shots.

Call it good

Once you’ve arrived at the look and feel for your wedding, stop looking and start doing. Add your own flair and style. You may start a new trend that wedding planners in Boise will be pinning themselves!

Wedding Trends 2017

Furry Friends

Idaho photographers have seen many wedding trends a cute pup make their way down the aisle as ring bearers. There was even the bride who had her bridesmaids carry adoptable puppies instead of bouquets. In 2017 our pets will play an even bigger role in upcoming nuptials. “From bunnies and goats to llamas and pigs, couples having rustic barn weddings are incorporating farm animals into the wedding day,” says The Knot.

Surprise settings.

Today’s couples want a wedding that will blow their guests away. One of the keys to an unforgettable event is the choice of venue. Any place with a large plot of land or a distinct barn or building will allow couples to really make their wedding unique and help them tell their personalized story.

On a Sugar High

After the last few years of pies, cake pops, and cupcakes, there’s been a strong shift back to tiered wedding cakes. There is something nostalgic about a wedding cake.

The Dinner Bell

With food trucks and family-style meals plus food stations are all fun ways to spice up the dinner., The old sit-down dinner is being replaced with more interactive options.

In an effort to entertain wedding guests, couples are turning to the tried and true: games. From interactive Mad Lib wedding programs to lawn games at outdoor cocktail hours, games are being used as a way to break the ice between guests. This playful trend is a great way to get your friends and family mingling and make great photographs. Just stay away from lawn darts.

Bold Colors

Color is making a comeback to weddings after years of pastels. From boysenberry, to royal blue paired with yellow, to lilac and violet, and peach with orange. Decorate with bold patterns, glam it up with gold details and have fun with it. Overflowing blooms, billowing fabrics and a barely frosted cake with berry embellishments will bring everything together. Photographers do love strong bold colors.

Ste. Chapelle Winery Wedding Venue Review

Ste. Chapelle Winery

Wedding and Reception Venue

Wedding photographers enjoy working outdoors. Especially from the cool shade in beautiful surroundings on a hot summer day. If you are looking for an outdoor wedding venue just a short distance from Boise, Ste. Chapelle Winery might work for you. Ste. Chapelle Winery is located just west of Nampa. If the weather doesn’t cooperate they also have a banquet room located upstairs in their retail shop. The banquet room can accommodate up to 100 people and the outdoor park up to 600. The price range is $1,000 – $3,000 and you can view more information about the wedding venue here.

Huge shade trees keep the dinner guests out of the hot sun. A late afternoon wedding will allow for amazing evening photos. Bride and groom sunset wedding portraits at the winery are gorgeous. Great views of the valley below and nighttime dancing in the gazebo too. The lighting on Ste. Chapelle’s wine tasting house also makes a nice night background.

BOHO Casual trend for wedding photographers

Boho trends in Wedding Photography

A great time capturing wedding photos and new trends! A new wedding trend is on the loose and coming to a town near you! It’s called Boho Weddings. While I was pining on pinterest I came across an article on Boho Wedding Trends. Curious to find out what this was I had to do a little internet search. After all I may be asked by a Boise bride to shoot her Boho wedding or maybe I have taken wedding photos at a boho wedding and didn’t even know about  it.

According to wikipedia (and we know it’s reliable) Boho is short for bohemian. Boho-chic is a style of fashion with a bohemian and hippie influence. Several actresses made this style popular in 2005. Since 1990’s it has been in and out of the wedding photographers fashion scene. Many of the elements of the boho style came from the 1960’s.

Even though it’s a trend, it’s timely. Who doesn’t love the casualness of the style. Lace, flower headbands instead of a formal wedding veil, informal wedding party attire, and DIY wedding decor with lace and flowers, of course. It would be perfect for any of the outdoor wedding venue such as the Idaho Botanical Garden, Barber Park Event Center, Alpine Ponds, Boise Depot, Still Water Hollow, not to mention the ranch homes and ranch style event centers located in Eagle. And what about those destination weddings in McCall, Cascade and Sun Valley. Boho is so Idaho weddings even if you’re not a hippy with a VW bus.

Waters Edge Event Center

Wedding Venues Boise for Brides and Photographers: Waters Edge Event Center

Wedding venues in Boise reviewed by Kevin Roberts Photography featured in this post Waters Edge Event Center.

Waters Edge Event Center is located in Eagle. The center can hold up to 350 wedding guests. The price range is reflective of the services they provide on location. A Saturday wedding can set you back $2,250 for rental fees. After reading the FAQ renter beware if you choose to bring in your own food. There is an addition charge of $800 and you will not be able to use the event centers linens, tableware, and the set-up service is forfeited. This wedding venue also has a sister venue in historic downtown Boise called the Adelmann Event Center.

Wedding venues in Boise provide an exceptional back drop for wedding portraits.  My couple held their wedding on a Thursday. Keeping it simple, everything at one location. Waters Edge does have a nice outside and inside for photographs. The chandeliers are a special touch for dancing shots. It has lots of windows for well lit rooms, and a roomy bride’s room.

Wild Heart Springs

Popular Wedding Venues for Boise Brides and Photographers: Wild Heart Springs

Wedding photographers in Boise are always excited going to a new venue.  Although Wild Heart Springs has been around for a couple years this is my first year I had the opportunity to really get to know the place as a wedding photographer.   I have to admit the first time I drove out to meet the bridal party at Wild Heart Springs it was an adventure.  Be sure to have your GPS and follow it even when it looks like you are going into a private farmers road.  A few turns and even more miles later….you have reached the oasis.

You can see the open fields, the river, and mature shade trees (my favorite).  We were able to get close to the river for bride and groom photos. The bridge was a nice touch, it goes to a great optional outdoor ceremony area. Chelsey and Drew chose an intimate candlelight ceremony in the huge reception, dinner, dance building. The lighthouse chapel was used for their first look, shared by all their family and wedding party filling the pews. They both pulled the bell tower ropes announcing their wedding, while family played lawn games in the grass.

Alpine Ponds

Popular Wedding Venues for Boise Photographers and Brides: Alpine Ponds

Wedding venues are often promoting themselves with free special events.  Many of these events ask photographers in Boise to help promote their wedding venue.  Kevin Roberts Photography was privileged to be asked by Alpine Ponds to participate in their 2014 Spring Mock Wedding.  Alpine Ponds offers packages starting at $1,000 and has accommodations for 100 – 250 people.

Sofiya and Chris’s wedding showcases many of Alpine ponds’ areas.  The guys look tough in the nice wooded areas. The ceremony takes advantage of the beautiful gazebo and large lawn for seated guests and aisle decorations. There is a bridge for creative photos plus secluded romantic areas for the bride and groom to be alone. Hanging bird cages and elegant table settings really transforms this venue. There is plenty of space for several food tables and dessert tables. In the evening the tented dance floor rimmed with a multi-colored light show turns the reception into a party.

BanBury Golf Course

Popular Wedding Venues for Boise Brides and Photographers: BanBury Golf Course

Wedding ceremony and reception at BanBury, in Eagle Idaho, can accommodate up to 350 guests.  When you rent the venue they allow you full access to the clubhouse for four hours.  It’s a full package deal at BanBury.  Pricing includes tables, chairs, tables, linens, dishes, glassware, silverware, set-up and clean-up.

Over the past years I have photographed many weddings at this Eagle wedding venue.  From the clubhouse there is a great view of the lake.  If you have an evening and the weather is cooperative on your special day it makes for wonderful sunset photos.  A covered patio provides cool shade for your guests and is a great reception area for the toasting and head table.  BanBury also offers a dance floor inside the clubhouse where your DJ will have plenty of space for his speakers and room for dancing.   Be aware if your wedding should go over the four hour (start of ceremony is start of your four hours) you will be charged an extra $100.

Here are a few of Kevin Roberts Photography’s fun shots taken at BanBury.  In early summer the lake offers a wonderful backdrop for bride and groom, wedding party, and individual portraits.

The Club at SpurWing

Popular Wedding Venues for Boise Brides and Photographers: The Club at SpurWing

The Club at SpurWing is another one of my personal favorite wedding event locations. SpurWing is a local Meridian golf course and clubhouse for hosting wedding events. It has a beautiful scenic backdrop for bride, groom, and wedding party photos. There is a stream and overlook along the course that are great spots to stop your golf cart for a photo shoot.

We usually start the day in the spacious bridal “getting ready” area, big enough for all your friends and lots of mirrors. Moving to the shaded entry area for bridal portraits we make good use of the wooden benches. The ceremony is usually held on the large patio.  There is plenty of shade for a hot summer wedding. The photo below also shows all the available space for guests. After being served dinner, the wedding party ends the day on the dance floor. The newlyweds for one of my weddings used the dance floor to show off their special wedding day cowboy boots!

Catering is provided in wedding packages offered to couples. The terrace can accommodate 250 guests and the Grand ballroom can accommodate up to 350.  View more details about wedding packages for The Club at SpurWing  here.

Still Water Hollow

Most popular 10 Venues for Wedding Photographers in Boise and surrounding areas

For the next several blogs I will be featuring my list of the most popular wedding venues in the surrounding area of Boise.  Having worked with wedding venues the past 20+ years my expertise and opinions are formed by the personality of the venue owner, the locations features such as landscaping, building, and anything that will create the wow factor in my client’s wedding photography.

Today we are featuring Still Water Hollow.  This is a fairly new re-opened venue, but reading on their website calendar, it is in high demand here in the Treasure Valley.  This spring was the first time I personally had experience with this venue under the new ownership, and I am booked to be there several more times this season.

Lisa and Steve invited us out to photograph their wedding in the heart of Nampa farm country, Still Water Hollow, a short fast drive from Boise.

The happy couple’s wedding party really turned up the fun on the big barn’s balcony, especially the groomsmen horsing around for me, the wedding photographer. The guys had the old mine with ore cars, pick axes, and a covered wagon to have fun with. These photos fit Steve’s personality, the happiest groom I have ever met. Still Water Hollow’s little white chapel gave an elegant touch for their first encounter photos and ceremony. Steve and Lisa’s wedding photography settings went from rustic western barn shots to romantic bridge and large pond backgrounds. This venue has a clear wide view of the horizon perfect for nice sunset wedding photography.
